SEO services in Doncaster & South Yorkshire

You're easy to find, if somebody already knows your name.

Everyone else is searching for what you do. That's a different search, on a page you're not on.

Being known

your business name

Being found

what you do + your town

Twenty-five businesses. None have left.

You can be the best in Doncaster and invisible in Thorne.

A business on Carr House Road can be the obvious choice in town and invisible to somebody eight miles up the road searching for exactly what it does.

Nobody rings to tell you they picked a firm in Rotherham because it came up first.

Closing that gap is what local SEO actually is, whatever else it gets called.

It isn't a marketing problem. It's a being-found problem, and it's fixable.

Let's have a look together

Tell us the business and where you work, and we'll go and look at what your customers actually see.

It takes about twenty minutes. No cost, and no sequence of emails afterwards.

These are done in-house, usually the next working day.

What gets looked at
Your position, town by town

Where you appear for your main service, in Doncaster and the towns next to it.

Why it matters. Ranking in Doncaster tells you nothing about Thorne. The gap between the two is usually where the missed work is.

The Google listing

Whether it can reach the map results at all, and what is stopping it.

Why it matters. The map results sit above everything else. If the listing cannot reach them, the website cannot make up the difference.

The website itself

What is holding it back, in plain terms, with the fixes ranked.

Why it matters. Most of what holds a site back is structural rather than cosmetic. It is also usually the cheapest part to put right.

Who is above you

And what they are doing that you are not.

Why it matters. You are not competing with Google. You are competing with four or five specific firms, and what they are doing is visible to anyone who looks.

We are not going to invent a problem to sell you the fix.

What Doncaster actually searches for.

This is your market, not ours. Here is what Doncaster typed into Google last month, across the trades we build websites for.

What Doncaster searches forSearches a monthDifficultyAds cost per click
estate agents doncaster1,90019£6.32
plumber doncaster1,6000£36.49
solicitors doncaster1,30020£9.42
roofer doncaster8803£4.94
accountant doncaster7202£11.27
electrician doncaster7200£3.45
locksmith doncaster72013£21.45
builders doncaster4800£4.12
joiner doncaster3900£6.66

Around 8,700 searches a month across those nine trades, and that is a short list. None of it is somebody hunting for a web designer. It is somebody with a leak, a house sale or a locked van, looking for the business that deals with it.

The line to stop at is the plumber. A click on plumber doncaster costs £36.49 on Google Ads, which is the most expensive term across every town we work in, and the difficulty of ranking for it organically is zero. That gap is the entire argument for doing this properly. Twenty clicks a month is £730 that stops the day you stop paying.

Estate agents and solicitors are the two genuinely contested ones here, at 19 and 20. Everything else in that table is close to open, which is not something we can say about Sheffield.

Your trade is probably not on this list. Ask, and we will pull the real Doncaster number for it before you commit to anything. It is the same check we run before quoting, and now and then it is why we tell somebody to save their money.

Source: Google keyword data via DataForSEO, United Kingdom, August 2026. Difficulty runs 0 to 100. These are trades we have built websites for, so the list is illustrative rather than exhaustive.

What it takes to show up in Doncaster right now.

Three businesses hold the map results for plumber doncaster. This is what they look like today.

  1. 15.0219 reviews5+ yrs trading
  2. 24.867 reviews7+ yrs trading
  3. 35.0165 reviews25+ yrs trading

The lowest way in is 67 reviews, not the 219 the biggest of the three has. Across the nine towns we cover that bar runs from 9 in Lincoln to 243 in Sheffield, which is why the same plan does not work in all of them.

And this is what the 10 results underneath them are actually made of.

  1. 1Checkatrade
  2. 2A Doncaster plumber's own website
  3. 3WaterSafe
  4. 4A Doncaster plumber's own website
  5. 5A Doncaster plumber's own website
  6. 6TrustATrader
  7. 7Federation of Master Builders
  8. 8Checkatrade again
  9. 9City Plumbing, a merchant
  10. 10Hamuch

7 of the 10 are a directory, a national brand or a listing you do not control. The second result is the first Doncaster business showing its own website. That is the gap a local business can take.

Two open files.

Two jobs in progress, rather than two finished stories. Neither site has been live long enough for a before and after to mean anything yet, so there isn't one here. The files stay open, and we add to them as the evidence arrives.

One of these is on your doorstep. Danum Auto Solutions trades in Doncaster, so that file is happening in your own map results, and Quickpickings is twenty minutes away in Sheffield. Read them for the working method rather than the outcome, because neither has been live long enough to have an outcome worth quoting.

July 2026 Site live

Rebranded onto the new domain, with the old one redirected in full so nothing that was ranking got stranded.

July 2026 Tracking started

Twenty-seven terms tracked weekly. The Google listing is tracked separately, because a business with no public address plays a different game in the map results. Enquiries from search counted apart from everything else.

Two search opportunities identified for the next phase, being tracked before we build for them.

Next update Too early to read

The site is three weeks old. The first honest read is months away, and we would rather say that than fill the gap.

The file

An auto locksmith moving into vehicle security, while the old website, the old domain and the old service list all still said locksmith.

Eight service pages where there were four, each named for what people search rather than what the trade calls it.

Six town pages for the head term.

Structured data on every service page, with the questions in the markup matching the questions actually on the page.

The rebuild landed in May and the groundwork in June: robots.txt fixed, sitemap submitted, review markup connected to the live Google reviews, and the homepage retargeted at the term people actually search for rather than the one the business calls itself. Two months of data is not enough to draw a conclusion from, so we are not drawing one.

Most SEO agencies can't touch the website they're being paid to fix.

The practical answers.

For the map results, mostly yes. Google weights how close you are to the person searching, and there is no arguing with it.

For the ordinary results underneath, no. A page written properly about the work you do in a town can rank there whether or not you have a unit in it. Most of the local SEO work lives in that second half, and it is the half most businesses never use.

If you want to be found in them, yes. One page cannot rank for eight towns, because it isn't about any of them in particular.

That doesn't mean eight thin pages with the town name swapped over. It means eight pages worth reading, which is why we do them one at a time rather than all at once.

Three usual causes, and none of them are the website. The profile is not verified, it is in the wrong category, or Google has not got enough consistent information about you to trust it. Reviews are the fourth.

The three holding the Doncaster map results for plumber sit on 219, 67 and 165. The lowest way in is 67, not the 219 at the front. That is a year of asking properly rather than a budget.

No. Your Google Business Profile can run as a service area business, which hides the street address and shows the places you travel to instead. For you that list is Doncaster plus Bentley, Armthorpe, Thorne and wherever else you actually go.

It changes how you compete rather than removing you. Google leans harder on distance from the searcher when there is no pin to measure from, so the pages about Bentley, Armthorpe and the rest do more of the work. That is the trade, and for most people working from home it is the right one.

On the broad terms, often not, and we'll tell you so rather than take the money.

On the town-level searches it usually is. National sites are rarely written about anywhere in particular, and that's the gap a local business can take.

From £495 a month. Six months to begin with, because that's where the work is front-loaded, then month to month.

Getting set up is charged once, at the start, and it's quoted in the proposal rather than folded into the first month. You should be able to see it. The full breakdown is on the SEO services page.

The Google listing can move within weeks. Website pages take three to six months to settle. Anyone quoting a fortnight is describing something else.

Doncaster is quicker than most of the towns on this list. Seven of the ten results on page one for plumber doncaster are a directory, a merchant or a trade body, which leaves three slots actually being contested by local businesses. Fewer real competitors is the reason the timeline holds here.

No. And neither can anyone else. What we can show you is where you were, where you are, and what we did in between.

No. Plenty of this happens on sites we didn't build.

It goes quicker when we built it. An SEO agency that only does search sends you a list and waits for somebody else to action it. We just make the change, because it's our website to change.

Then this is the wrong thing, and we'll say so. Google Ads is faster.

Getting found is the fourth thing we do, and it works because we already do the first three. How the four fit together

See what your customers see, then decide.

There's no rush from our end. Most of the businesses we look after took months to get round to it, and the ones who were hurried into it by somebody else usually regretted the somebody else.

If we're not the right people, we'll tell you who is.
